Beautiful Mothers Day Flowers |
 |
Mother's Day is a special day of the year set aside to specifically honor mothers, but the idea of celebrating mothers is not new. Ancient Greeks and Romans dedicated one day each year to celebrate their gods who were mothers. Presents were also given to human mothers on this day as part of the celebration. Mother's Day, as we know it, began in the United States with Julia Ward Howe's “Mother's Day Proclamation.” Her proclamation was followed by the efforts of Anne Jarvis of Grafton, West Virginia, who created the Mother's Day International Association in 1912. The goal of this association was to promote the idea of a day to honor all mothers and motherhood. Finally, President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day a national holiday by law in the United States. Today, Mother's Day is celebrated not only in the United States, but also in many countries of the world. Though the dates of Mother's Day often differ, they goal of honoring mothers remains the same.
Giving gifts to honor a mother is the most popular way to celebrate Mother's Day. Common gifts include: flowers, a classy dinner, chocolates, and books. One of the simplest and most beautiful ways to honor a mother is to present her with flowers. Flowers are a source of beauty and warmth and reflect the beauty of the mother-child relationship. Common flowers to give on Mother's Day are: carnations, daffodils, roses, tulips, irises, and lilies. Most Mothers Day flowers arrangements are created with a variety of these flowers and are generally filled with bright, happy colored flowers. Carnations, in particular, tend to last a long time and are an excellent choice.
Mothers Day flowers can be given in a vase or with a ribbon tied around the stems of the flowers. A vase is recommended as a way to display the flowers and it is something tangible that a mother can keep long after the flowers are gone. The flowers do not need to be wrapped, put in a box, or put in a gift bag. If you choose a flower arrangement from a florist, it may come with a basket and a small card that you can personalize for your mother. Local or online florists can provide delivery of the flowers to almost anywhere if you are unable to present them yourself.
Choosing a Mothers Day flowers arrangement is simple and convenient, yet it is a wonderful gift. If your mother has a favorite flower, you might consider picking an arrangement that features that flower. Many florists allow you the opportunity to customize your Mothers Day flowers by picking the flowers for the arrangement, adding a certain type of flower to an already prepared arrangement, or adding a small gift, such as chocolates, to go with the flower arrangement.
Whatever way you choose to celebrate Mother's Day, don't forget that flowers are a gift of beauty and affection to any mother. |
